Land Administration Guide

How Public Land Acquisition Works in Enugu State

Under the Land Use Act 1978 (Sections 28 and 29), the Governor of Enugu State may acquire land for overriding public purpose — including highways, water reservoirs, healthcare centers, educational facilities, housing estates, and industrial free zones.

Step 01

Notice & Gazette

The Agency publishes a statutory Notice of Intention to Acquire in the Official State Gazette and conducts stakeholder meetings with traditional rulers and community leadership.

Step 02

GIS Charting

Surveyors delineate perimeter boundaries with GPS coordinates, recording exact acreage, topographic features, and overlapping cadastral layouts.

Step 03

Crop & Asset Count

Estate officers and valuers conduct on-ground physical counts of buildings, economic trees, crops, fish ponds, and sacred groves in presence of landholders.

Step 04

Fair Compensation

Approved valuations are disbursed directly to verified landholders, families, and communities alongside alternative resettlement plots where designated.
